ANNUAL BOARD MEETING HELD ON 3RD APRIL
RABBI TONY BAYFIELD ELECTED VICE PRESIDENT
TWO NEW ORGANISATIONS JOIN AS AFFILIATE MEMBERS
At the Annual General Meeting of the European Region of the World Union for Progressive Judaism held at the Sternberg Centre in Finchley, London, on Sunday 3rd April 2005, Rabbi Tony Bayfield, Chief Executive of the Reform Synagogues of Great Britain was elected Vice President in place of Eliel Masson from Geneva who had completed his term in office. Rabbi Bayfield joins seven other Vice-Presidents who including representatives from Liberal Judaism (UK), France, Israel, Switzerland, Germany and the Netherlands
Leslie Bergman, Vice-President in charge of finance for the World Union was elected Vice-Chair in place of Robin Michaelson, a member of West London Synagogue, who had completed two terms in office.
European Region chair Gordon Smith thanked both Eliel Masson and Robin Michaelson for their support over the past years. In particular he referred to the fundraising dinners and European Region pre-conference tours which Robin Michaelson had organised and which he had agreed to continued to be involved with in the future.
Two organisations were unanimously elected as affiliate members of the European Region.
The State Board of the Jewish Communities of Schleswig-Holstein, which comprises six independent communities. This grouping consists of around 200 members and is in receipt of some State funding.
Eurojews is designed as a non-profit (charitable) organisation and aims to facilitate young European Progressive Jews to meet one another by organising regular weekends around Europe and to support the emerging Progressive synagogues and communities of Europe.
