The World Union for Progressive Judaism The WUPJ is now the largest synagogual organisation in the world;
members number well over one and a half million on all five continents with
growing movements in Australasia and the Pacific Rim; Southern Africa, South
America; and Europe. Representatives from most countries serve on the
Governing Body which controls budgets, prioritises the use of personnel and
resources around the world, and acts as a facilitator to enable strong
established communities to support emerging groups. Today Beit Shmuel, the WUPJ/Hebrew Union College - JIR campus on King
David Street, is a major landmark in Jerusalem. Cultural, social, and
educational programmes at every level, from the Beit Midrash to Jewish literacy
programmes for new immigrants, attract thousands every week European
